For the design of this bookcase a special sandwich of materials: two sheets of aluminium and a core of transparent injection-moulded honeycomb structure.
The metal skin gives rigidity to the plastic, which would not be sufficiently resistant on its own. Plastic tacks connect the metal to the plastic, simply by pressing.
The production system utilizes a special robot which, in the time it takes to mould the plastic piece, is capable of 'riveting' 80 tacks; the device attaches the aluminium sheets to the plastic honeycomb utilizing only the size differential between the tacks and their holes.
